Lip blush: Frequently asked questions

1. What is lip blushing?

Lip blushing is a semi-permanent cosmetic treatment that enhances the natural tone and shape of your lips.

Using a delicate tattooing technique, a skilled artist applies pigment to create a soft, tinted look that enhances your lips’ natural beauty.

2. How long does lip blushing last?

Typically, lip blushing lasts between 2 to 3 years. Over time, the color gradually fades, with factors like skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare playing a big role in longevity.

3. What does the lip blushing process involve?

The procedure includes a consultation to determine your desired shade, application of numbing cream, and then the tattooing process, which usually takes 2 to 3 hours in total.

4. How much does lip blushing cost?

Pricing can range from $300 to $1,500 depending on the artist's experience and your location. It’s an investment that saves time and reduces daily makeup use.

5. Does it hurt?

The sensation is often described as mild discomfort, similar to a light stinging. Numbing cream is used to minimize any pain, making the experience manageable for most clients.

6. How long does it take to heal?

Initial healing typically takes about a week, with mild peeling and scabbing expected. Full healing can take up to 6 weeks as the color settles and your lips adjust.

7. When can I wear lipstick again?

Once your lips are fully healed, usually after 10 to 14 days, you can safely wear lipstick or other lip products. Always follow aftercare instructions for best results.

8. Does lip blushing make your lips look bigger?

While it doesn’t physically change lip size, the enhanced color and defined edges create the illusion of fuller, more balanced lips.

9. What about eating and drinking after the procedure?

You can eat soft foods immediately after, but avoid spicy or acidic items for a few days. Drink through a straw to minimize contact with your lips during the healing period.

10. Is lip blushing safe?

When done by a certified professional in a hygienic environment, lip blushing is safe. Proper aftercare reduces the risk of infection or complications.

11. Can I wash my face after lip blushing?

Yes, but carefully avoid the lip area during the first week. Use a damp cloth to clean around your lips to prevent irritation.

12. Can I exercise or drink coffee after lip blushing?

Strenuous workouts and hot drinks like coffee should be avoided for 24 to 48 hours post-procedure to protect the healing process.

13. Can it be removed if I don’t like it?

Yes, lip blush pigment can be lightened or removed using laser or saline treatments. However, this process may take multiple sessions and can be costly.

14. Is it worth it?

For those looking for long-lasting lip enhancement, lip blushing is a great option. It adds a natural tint and definition, it can also save you lots of time with daily makeup application.

15. Why is lip blushing popular with holistic beauty enthusiasts?

Lip blushing focuses on enhancing your natural features, aligning perfectly with the trend toward low-maintenance, natural beauty routines.

Right After Your Lip Blush Procedure

Your lips will be a bit red and swollen, and the color will look darker than you might expect. Don’t worry; this is totally normal! Expect the color to soften and lighten by 30-50% as they heal.

Healing Instructions

Days 1-7:

Gently clean your lips by dabbing cool water on them with a clean paper towel.

Pat them dry with a tissue and apply a thin coat of the provided lip ointment with a cotton swab.

Use an ice pack to help with swelling on Days 1 and 2.

Reapply ointment 3-5 times a day for the next two weeks, as your lips will feel chapped and dry for about 2-3 weeks.

Week 1:

Lips will start cracking and peeling. This is totally normal!

Weeks 2-4:

Expect your lips to look lighter and softer than the final color.

Week 8:

The true color will fully develop.

Important Don’ts During Healing

Avoid Water directly on your lips in the shower; only dab with cool water when needed.

Avoid Irritating foods like spicy, salty, oily, or acidic foods.

Gently rinse your mouth and clean your lips after meals.

No Kissing until peeling is over to prevent irritation.

Don’t Cover Your Lips with masks, bandages, or wraps.

No Pools, Saunas, or Tanning for 10 days to allow full healing.

Avoid Touching or Picking at your lips—use a Q-tip for ointment application to avoid bacteria.

No Makeup, Sweaty Workouts, Sun Tanning, or Excessive Alcohol/Smoking as these may hinder healing.

What to Expect While Healing

Your lips may darken in the first few days, which is normal.

By days 3-5, they’ll start to itch and flake, looking like dry skin or dandruff flakes.

When the flakes come off, some areas might look lighter, but don’t worry; the color will come back over time.

Resist picking or touching your lips to avoid color loss, scarring, and infection.

Full Healing Time

Around 14 days. By then, you can resume normal activities. Remember that lips might still appear light even after 14 days, but the final color will settle around the 8-week mark.

Trust the process—it’s worth the wait!

For the Next 30 Days

Avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and certain creams, as these can fade the pigment. After 14 days, you can use sunscreen on your lips to help the color last.

Touch-Up Appointment

The touch-up is a “perfection session” to fill in any areas that may not have taken the pigment well.

It’s best scheduled after 8 weeks, as it takes time for the color to fully set.

Remember, everyone’s skin is unique, so results vary.

Every effort will be made to help you achieve your desired look!
